Two MAT Directors sought – non-executive roles

Role 1 : Trustee and Educational Expert

The role supports the full Trust Board and the Chief Academic Officer to hold  the Principals to account via scrutiny of attainment and progress data for individuals and groups of children. This trustee will also provide broad support and rigorous challenge on all aspects of the curriculum provision, quality of teaching, safeguarding and use of resources.

Essential experience

  • Recent/current Deputy/Headship experience at state primary/secondary level
  • Experience of scrutinising and utilising progress and attainment data to improve outcomes
  • Willingness to travel between London and Oxfordshire
  • Commitment to the GEMS Learning Trust network of schools

Desirable experience

  • Experience of Multi Academy Trust governance/school governance
  • Willingness to chair Standards committee meetings
  • Experience or knowledge of SEND and Safeguarding best practise

Your commitment

6 meetings a year (each appx. 2 hours long) 3 in Oxfordshire and 3 in Twickenham) plus additional time to prepare for each meeting. All Full Board and Standards Committee meetings take place during the working day

Trusteeship is a voluntary, unpaid role for people who have the energy and skills to make a real contribution to shaping the future of our schools.  You will be reimbursed for all travel costs and essential expenses incurred.

Start date

We require the new director to be in place for the academic year 2018/19 although an earlier start would be possible.

Role 2: Finance, Audit and Risk Expert

The role supports the full Trust Board and the Chief Executive Officer to ensure tight financial control of the Multi Academy Trust financial affairs. This includes monitoring of compliance, enagement with internal and external audit processes and careful management of risk. This director will sit on the Operations Committee and also be a Director/Trustee of the full board.

Essential experience

  • Recent/current senior level financial/accountancy role
  • Knowledge and understanding of forecast budgets, management accounts and annual accounts
  • Commitment to ensuring value for money
  • Willingness to travel between London and Oxfordshire
  • Commitment to the GEMS Learning Trust network of schools

Desirable experience

  • Knowledge and understanding of the Academies Financial Handbook
  • Willingness to chair Operations committee meetings
  • Experience or knowledge of school/academy governance

Your commitment

8 meetings a year (each appx. 2 hours long). 5 of which are held remotely by dial in (Operations Committee) and 3 of which are full board meetings, held alertnately at the schools in Didcot, Oxon and Twickenham.
